Hands-on Learning and Supervised Practice Sites

The Central Valley WIC MS/DI provides a wide variety of supervised practice experiences to meet the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) competencies and requirements. Learning experiences provide a  strong foundation in dietetic knowledge and practice, which are keys to future career mobility.

Hands-on learning experiences in the areas of Community Nutrition, Clinical Nutrition and Food Service Management are incorporated into the curriculum. During the internship rotation year, classes are held each Monday at the United Health Centers Pinedale WIC Site in Fresno, or at rotation sites in Fresno County.  Classes include lectures by internship staff and guest lecturers. Classes also incorporate group discussions and hands-on training to build both knowledge and skills in the application of dietetics.

Program graduation requirements:
  1. Successful completion of a minimum of 1000 supervised practice hours.
  2. Successful completion of all supervised practice rotations and didactic assignments as determined by preceptors, the Internship Director and the Internship Coordinator.
  3. Successful completion of all competencies.

All interns who successfully complete the internship program are required to participate in a free Registration Exam Study Program, "eRD2b", after graduation. The study program is a structured, web-based program monitored by the California WIC Career Development Coordinator.  Guided instruction and support, as well as access to valuable study materials, are given to interns to help them prepare for the exam.
